Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do solar panels work in cloudy UK weather?

Absolutely. Modern solar panels don't need direct, intense sunlight to generate electricity; they work on daylight radiation. While they produce maximum power on bright sunny days, they still generate substantial energy during overcast, rainy, or typically grey UK days.

Q. Do I need planning permission?

In most cases in the UK, residential solar panels are considered 'Permitted Development' and do not require formal planning permission. Exceptions apply if your home is a listed building, in a conservation area, or if you live in a national park. Our pre-installation survey will verify this for you.

Q. How long does the installation take?

A standard residential solar panel installation usually takes 1 to 2 days to complete. Scaffolding is typically erected 1-2 days prior to the install. Our certified team works cleanly and quickly to minimize disruption to your home.

Q. Can I sell excess energy back to the grid?

Yes. Through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) scheme, energy suppliers will pay you for the surplus renewable electricity you export back to the national grid. You'll need a smart meter, which we can help arrange, and you can shop around for the best SEG rates.

Q. How long do the batteries last?

Modern Lithium-ion solar batteries (like the ones we install) typically come with a 10-year warranty, but their operational lifespan is often between 12 to 15 years depending on usage cycles. They will slowly degrade in capacity over time, similar to a mobile phone battery but much slower.
